Recently I’ve had contact from a couple of people regarding Glenn Canady and AB Development. I haven’t even had the time to reply to them or post their comments on this blog, so I’d like to apologise to them, and in particular El Scott Harrell. El Scott is a private investigator whose material Glenn Canady lifted and used without permission on one of Glenn’s crappy scraper sites. From what I read it appears that Glenn Canady followed his usual pattern – start off ‘nice’ with the first email and then resort to name calling when Glenn doesn’t get his own way.  Unfortunately for Glenn Canady, El Scott Harrell seems to be a straight talking, non-nonsense kind of guy who is more than capable of running rings around Glenn Canady.

OK, so what has spurred me on to do another post after all this time ?

Well, if you look at the last post I did – Glenn Canady Spams (Yet Again) – you will see that I made mention of the fact that I was still getting spam email from Glenn Canady and that he had got annoyed about the fact that I was complaining about the fact that he was spamming me !

Well, here we are several months later and guess what ? Glenn Canady is spamming me – yet again !

Glenn, for your information, Unsolicited Commercial Email = Spam

There is plenty of evidence scattered around the web (and on this site as well I think) about how Glenn Canady, the guy who pontificated about how people should behave and conduct link exchanges, then promptly screwed over his link partners.  He got loads of people to put up links to his sites and then a few months later, without telling them, took down the links.  Pretty scummy stuff, even for Glenn.

One of the people that Glenn screwed over when he did this was me.  When I set up the site that I lost the $8000 on when I did Glenn Canady’s Gorilla Website Marketing Course, he approached me for a link exchange to one of his sites.  I did the link exchange, and even when things quickly went downhill on the course I figured that a mans word should be his bond.  I’d agreed a link exchange and even though things had deteriorated I kept it up (I won’t pretend it didn’t cross my mind to take it down).  So imagine how stupid I felt when I found that I’d been taken for a fool – again.

So see if you can guess which email address Glenn is now spamming me on ?  Yes – it’s the email address I used when we did the link exchange.  The same link exchange that Glenn cheated me on.  And now he’s got the nerve to start spamming me on that address !

You know, the funny thing is that when I decided to write another post it WASN’T going to be about Glenn’s email spam.  What I was pissed off about, and what I WAS going to write about was the fact that Glenn is abusing another one of my sites. He is by posting text on his site that he has scraped, and is using the scraped text on one of his spammy sites.  Well, thats going to have to be another post !

So what did I get just a few days ago ?  Another email from Glenn Canady from his Gorilla marketing list.  The very same list that he had assured me that he had finally removed me from.

The contents of the email have already been posted in a comment by a lady who also received the same email.  Glenn Canady’s email is posted there if you want to read it.  Her comment was :

Ok, so lets have a look at Glenn’s email :

If Glenn is such a sincere guy and really believes in what he is saying then ask yourself, why is he not using it himself ?  He is sitting there with most of his sites, including his flagship 5 Star Shine and Gorilla Website Marketing sites, banned from Google.  In his situation, if you had something that you were “100% sure that it worked”, wouldn’t you use it ?  Particularly when he is saying that it is “the most
important thing I’ve discovered for marketing on the Internet”.

Quite honestly I’d be surprised if Glenn Canady can even spell RSS never mind know what it is and how to use it !

Now here is the really good bit :

I’ve known about blogging for many years but until recently
I didn’t realize the true power of blogs. Then I began seeing
more and more of the top listings on Google were going to blogs
and not regular websites. That got me very curious about what

As the lady who posted the comment said “looks like you may have inspired him!!! LOL”

After all, can you think of a site where Glenn might have seen a blog go from nowhere to number 1 on Google and the other major search engines ? Can you think of a site where Glenn would have seen a site do all of this without resorting to the use of any of his methods ?  As the lady that left the comment hinted at, thats my site !

And all of this from a guy who managed to get his own sites banned from Google !

Look, if you want to know about RSS and blogging then I would be happy to help you.  It’s a constantly changing field and the importance with which search engines regard it seems to be altering.  And it’s something that I am on top of, working with, and using on a daily basis.  I have successfully created a number of sites, all of which have achieved top rankings.

I haven’t got the time to cover our brief exchange of emails at the moment, but it resulted in Advanced Business Development making me an ‘offer’ of another few telephone sessions with them, providing that I first told the BBB that everything was now OK, and take down this site, BEFORE Advanced Business Development do a thing.

Yes, that right. They want me to tell the BBB that I am withdrawing my complaint about Advanced Business Development, and they want me to take down this site. All of this is before they have done anything. And what do I get in return for doing all this ? I’m being offered the promise of another few of the same telephone sessions that got me into this mess. Sounds tempting doesn’t it ?

I might have got taken for a mug once, but I’m not falling for it a second time !

I am prepared to listen to sensible offers from Advanced Business Development and/or Glenn Canady, but I’m not prepared to have my intelligence insulted like that.

I have made it very clear to Jeremy Cobb that whatever happens this site stays up. I will document in full what has happened, and what is happening. If they put things right then I will say so loudly and clearly on this site. I asked for a refund of my money, minus the cost of the things that I identified that they had delivered to me. They refused this.

As far as Jeremy Cobb’s offer goes, this is what I had to say :

You (and I mean you) provide what you are offering, BUT, the blog stays
up. I have documented the whole thing and will continue to do so. You
have my word that if I am provided with assistance that is worthwhile
then I will document that and tell people EXACTLY how good or bad things
have been. If I end up with a web site that is pulling in anything
like the sort of money that I was originally led to believe that I was
going to be making then I will go back to the BBB and tell them that AB
Development have resolved the issue. Basically, deliver what I was
promised and I’ll make sure people know.

I haven’t heard from them since.

When I stumbled across the site yesterday I spotted the title for one of their shows on Feb. 15th - “Banned by Google? Alternative Traffic Sources”. Who was the guest that was presenting this ? Yes, you’ve guessed it - Glenn Canady.

This was the introduction for the broadcast :

So, Glenn Canady is still trying to make out that he doesn’t know why he was banned. Maybe he would like to refresh his very short memory by reading my previous posts :

I’ve got to hand it to the guy, he’s trying desperately to use the full force of his reality distortion field to try and put a positive spin on getting banned from Google. How long can he keep this farce up ?

It’s certainly interesting to see others come forward and say that they also lost substantial amounts of money to Glenn Canady and/or Advanced Business Development. Their money, according to them, handed over on the basis of claims for the course similar to those that were made to me

I’ve added a couple of plugins to beef up the protection as well, which means that all comments etc. will go into moderation. So, if you post a comment and it doesn’t appear then please don’t assume that it has gone into a black hole, or that I am trying to supress comments on this site. That is NOT the case. All non-spam comments will be checked and posted, unless of course it is a mindless string of four-lettered abuse or something , in which case the ‘bad words’ list will probably blacklist it.

The other thing I forgot in my last post was to add something to the ‘to do’ list for the site, and that is to put back the links that were on the previous Blogger built site. There were only about 3 or 4 on the links page, but I want to try and put them back on the same page if possible, otherwise I’ll have to notify the webmasters and let them know I’ve moved their links. If you say you are going to put up a link and keep it up then you should do it.

I remember Glenn Canady saying that was an important thing. I think I’ve covered this topic before, but I noticed that there seems to be a renewed flurry of activity on the following thread :

BEWARE !!! CHECK YOUR LINK PARTNERS (Been cheated by those 5star/gorilla people amongst others)

It’s from a lot of very angry webmasters that Glenn Canady had exchanged links with. They discovered that he had dropped their links with no warning or explanation. Which is a bit rich coming from the guy who wrote the Ten Commandments of Linking. Here is commandment number 10 in Glenn’s own words :

#10) Thou Shall Not Take Down Your Link Partner’s Link

If you give somebody a link, then don’t delete it when you think
nobody’s looking! I’ve seen people try to pull one over on me by
getting a link, then deciding to delete their entire link
directory a few months later! These people must think that a
link directory is just something that you do for a while and then
delete when you have some links or something. Linking is not
just something you do for a bit and then throw away - it’s a
total way of life dude! When you’re doing linking right, you’re
building a valuable resource that will get lots of traffic.

Hows that for hypocrisy ?

My priorities for this site are :

1. Get the comments back up.
2. Create new categories and categorise the existing posts.
3. Create a timeline using categories so it’s clear as to what happened and when.
4. Bring the documentation of events up to date.
5. Cross categorise the events by company and individuals involved.
6. Cover the events surrounding my contact with the BBB.
7. Publish the recent emails between Glenn Canady and myself (he wants me to do this !?)
8. Respond to Jeremy Cobb from Advanced Business Development (AB Development) as to why he was wrong in the comment he left a few weeks ago.
9. Cover the recent contact from Jeremy Cobb at Advanced Business Development, and what they offered me to take this blog down.
10. Create a category for messages of support, and emails from people who have also suffered a similar fate at the hands of Advanced Business Development and/or Glenn Canady.

One of the nice things about moving from Blogger to Wordpress is the added power and flexibility that Wordpress offers. Blogger restricted you to one ping service. There were ways around this, some of which I used, but Wordpress has no such restrictions.

There is plenty information around about importing from Blogger to Wordpress, but it’s not as smooth as it should be. I’ve managed to keep a similar look and feel thanks to some of the superb themes that are available for Wordpress 1.5. I’m using Yadda, from John Hesch, and I’ve just tweaked it here and there to get the colours and layout how I wanted them, and accomodate a couple of plugins. If anyone wants my style sheet and sidebar code then let me know.

I will do what I can to redirect hits on the old feed location to the new one, but I don’t know if it will work as planned and it will be FAR easier and safer if people just change over to either the new Atom feed or one of the two new RSS feeds (RSS 2.0 & 0.92).

Why am I changing ? Well, what I’m currently using (Blogger) is a very accessible tool, but once you get to more than a few posts there are annoyances that start to become more and more noticeable. In particular, the lack of categories in Blogger is a major irritation. There are ways around this, all of them messy, and none of them a real solution.

I’m trying to tell my experiences of events that go back to Oct/Nov 2003, but at the same time there are more recent events happening with Glenn Canady and AB Development that need documenting. With Blogger I feel that I am ending up with a jumble of posts. It’s losing the thread of what I am trying to say. If someone looks at my blog for the first time then it’s not clear what the chronological order is , as it jumps backwards and forwards between past and present. I aim to correct that. It will be a much clearer read and people will not have to rummage around trying to find where the start was.

The issues that I’ve faced with (dis)organisation of posts has been one of the things thats held me back from posting too much recently. It seemed that I was just adding to the problem and making more work for myself when I eventually got around to changing software.

There is likely to be some loss of search engine rankings and various other problems. Old page names will no longer match the new page names. I will take steps to minimise the disruption on this. I could make them match but I don’t have the time to fiddle around with the intricacies of MOD REWRITE to get it to do what I want. I’ll settle for some 301’s instead

One thing that I cannot do, and I haven’t come across anyone else who has managed it, is to import the comments from the Blogger site. There are not that many comments on my site, but I do not feel that it would be right just to lose them. It would inevitably lead to someone accusing me of dumping comments because I didn’t like what was said. What I plan to do is to do a copy and paste of all the old comments and put them on a page with as much information linking them to the original post and author as I can. I can’t really see another way around it , unless I do a comment on the post myself and paste the old comment in. But then it looks like I’m replying to all my own posts, and that would just look silly !
